The island of Cyprus is the third largest island in the mediterranean covering an area of 3,572 square miles. Cyprus became a member of the European Union on the 1st May 2004 and still currently uses its own currency the Cypriot Pound, denoted by the symbol CY₤.

Cyprus has a superb climate with long hot summer days and mild winters with cool evenings, you can even ski on the Troodos mountain in the winter.

The island of Cyprus has been split in two with the southern part of the island being run by the Republic of Cyprus and the north by the Turkish Cypriot government. Turkey has occupied Cyprus since July 1974 and talks are still underway to resolve the differences.
